Roald Dahl Day 2026 at our Nelson centre

Every September, readers around the world celebrate Roald Dahl Day on the author's birthday, 13th September. This year our Cubs in Nelson joined in with reading, writing and dressing up, and the costumes did not disappoint.

Choosing winners was genuinely difficult, but here's how it went...

šŸ† Our Best Dressed winner: Aminah Mazhar

A huge congratulations to Aminah Mazhar (Year 6), our 1st Prize winner for Best Dressed Costume.

Aminah impressed us with two brilliant Roald Dahl costumes on two different days. She came in as the duck from The Magic Finger (the costume that won her the prize), then returned transformed into Matilda.

Her prize was a Roald Dahl book and a Marvellous Creations chocolate bar, which felt like exactly the right reward.

We absolutely loved her creativity, effort and enthusiasm.

šŸ‘ A big well done to Hasan and Inayah

Hasan Khan (Year 4) and Inayah Farooq (Year 1) both looked fantastic and put so much effort into their costumes.

Thank you to everyone who took part, and to the parents behind the scenes who helped put the outfits together. You made the day so much fun.

šŸ“š Keeping the love of reading going

Roald Dahl Day is part of our ongoing Literacy Initiative, which aims to raise reading enjoyment for children of every starting point. We're carrying the momentum into October with Poetry Month, which started on National Poetry Day with this year's theme, Wonder.
